Class Descriptions:
Beginners Hatha Flow:
a meditative, flowing series of easy yoga poses for beginners. Includes many seated and lying asanas (poses) and introduces basic standing and some inverted asanas, as well as yogic breathing (pranayama) and guided relaxation.
Mixed Levels Hatha Flow:
a more challenging, meditative, flowing series of yoga asanas for those with some prior experience of yoga. Includes pranayama, sun salutations, more advanced variations of seated, lying, standing and inverted asanas, and guided relaxation. Variations of the poses are given to accommodate various levels of practice.
Seniors Beginners Hatha Flow:
a gentle, meditative flow of easy poses for seniors beginning yoga. Includes yogic breathing (pranayama) and basic seated and lying poses (asanas), with some adapted standing poses using props such as chairs, walls and blocks. Classes end with guided relaxation to allow the prana, or life energy, circulated from the yoga practice to settle into the cells, promoting healing and mind-body-spirit balance.
Seniors Continuing Hatha Flow:
a more challenging meditative flow of asanas for seniors with some prior experience. Includes yogic breathing (pranayama), seated, lying and standing poses, and some sun salutations. Variations using props such as chairs and walls are given for those who find them helpful. Classes end with guided relaxation to promote healing and balance.
Mom & Babe Yoga:
a gentle, supportive yoga class for new mothers after post-partum healing and with pre-mobile babies. Includes easy variations of poses (asanas) to help stretch, strengthen, get back into shape after pregnancy and ease the discomforts of breast-feeding and carrying baby around. Classes incorporate some baby massage to help soothe and bond with baby, and help relaxation.
Prenatal Yoga:
a gentle yoga class to help women cope with the discomforts of pregnancy and prepare for the baby's birth. Includes yogic breathing, easy and adapted poses suitable for the pregnant woman's changing body, meditation and guided relaxation.
Beginners Sivananda Yoga:
a more challenging, fixed flow of 12 basic asanas sequenced to tone and strengthen the spine and all the major muscles groups of the body as it opens the chakras, or energy centers, from sahasrara the crown chakra to muladhara the root. Includes chanting sacred sounds or mantras, yogic breathing or pranayama, sun salutations, abdominal strengthening, the twelve fundamental asanas as taught by Swami Vishnu Devananda in the tradition of Swami Sivananda, and relaxation. Variations are offered, but total beginners are advised to learn yogic breathing, sun salutations and basic asanas in Beginners Hatha Flow before joining this class.
Restorative Yoga:
a gentle, meditative class for people with sickness or injury that uses props such as blocks, chairs, the wall and so on to modify basic asanas. Using props to support the body comfortably in position allows breath and stillness to help the body’s natural ability to heal.
